Facial Injectables at S-Thetics: The Expertise Behind the Results

Facial Injectables at S-Thetics: The Expertise Behind the Results

When it comes to facial fillers and cosmetic injectables, the difference between a natural result and an overdone one lies entirely in the hands holding the syringe. At S-Thetics Clinic, those hands belong to Miss Sherina Balaratnam: surgeon, award-winning injector, and one of the UK’s most recognised names in aesthetic medicine.

Facial injectables have become one of the most requested treatments in aesthetic medicine. Yet with popularity comes risk: in untrained or inexperienced hands, these procedures can produce results that are anything but subtle. Miss Balaratnam has spent over 26 years in medicine, including seven years of surgical training in plastic and reconstructive surgery, building the anatomical knowledge and clinical precision that sets her injectable work apart.

A Surgical Foundation That Changes Everything

Miss Balaratnam is a qualified surgeon as well as a cosmetic doctor, holding MBBS, MRCS(Edin) and MSc(UCL) qualifications. Her surgical background, which included reconstructive burn surgery and post-skin cancer reconstruction within the NHS, gives her an understanding of facial anatomy that goes far beyond the scope of standard aesthetic training.

This depth of anatomical knowledge informs every injectable treatment she performs, whether that is restoring volume to hollow cheeks, softening the tear trough, refining the jawline, or addressing the nasolabial folds. Her philosophy is consistent: less is more, and the goal is always to respect the individual character of your face while restoring what time has taken.

“The desired result is a healthy, refreshed glow, not to dramatically change the way you look.”

Recognised Globally as a Leading Injector

Miss Balaratnam’s credentials in facial injectables are not self-declared: they have been independently verified by some of the most respected voices in global aesthetic medicine. In 2018 and 2019, world-renowned Brazilian plastic surgeon and creator of the MD Codes, Dr Mauricio De Maio, personally selected her as one of his “World’s Top 50” injectors, an invitation extended to just fifty practitioners across the entire globe.

In 2019, she was invited into his elite International Mentorship group: a cohort of just twelve Aesthetic Doctors, Plastic Surgeons and Dermatologists drawn from Brazil, Taiwan, Singapore, the UAE, Mexico and Sweden, among others. She was also awarded the title of Local Country Ambassador for Allergan, the manufacturers of the Juvederm range of facial fillers, one of only nine UK practitioners to hold this distinction. In this role, she regularly trains and mentors other healthcare professionals in advanced injectable techniques.

The Tatler Beauty and Cosmetic Surgery Guide has featured Miss Balaratnam for six consecutive years, naming her among the UK’s Top 5 Doctors for dermal filler treatment and, most recently in 2025, as the UK’s best in class for injectables. Glamour UK named her one of the country’s Top 10 Must-Visit Doctors, and The Times Raconteur and the Mail on Sunday have both sought her expertise on the subject of facial fillers.

Facial Injectable Treatments at S-Thetics

Every injectable treatment at S-Thetics begins with a thorough consultation, during which Miss Balaratnam assesses facial anatomy, skin quality, and the patient’s goals. A bespoke plan is then created around those individual needs. Key injectable treatments available at the clinic include:

  • Dermal Fillers (Juvederm range): A non-permanent injectable solution that restores volume to fine lines, deep wrinkles and areas of volume loss. Treatment areas include the tear trough, cheeks, nasolabial folds, jawline and lips. The Juvederm range also contains lidocaine for a comfortable injection experience.
  • Profhilo: A bioremodelling injectable that works differently to conventional fillers, stimulating collagen and elastin rather than simply adding volume. Particularly effective for improving skin laxity and overall skin quality.
  • Cellenis DermaFiller: A next-generation autologous injectable created from the patient’s own blood plasma. Unlike conventional fillers, it stimulates the body’s own collagen production for natural, longer-lasting results.
  • Anti-wrinkle injections (toxins): Administered with precision informed by Miss Balaratnam’s surgical knowledge of facial musculature, to soften dynamic expression lines while preserving natural movement.
