With over 26 years of medical experience, a surgical background in NHS reconstructive plastic surgery, and a philosophy rooted in confidence rather than correction, Miss Sherina Balaratnam has built one of the UK’s most respected medical aesthetics clinics from the ground up.
Before she founded S-Thetics Clinic in Beaconsfield, Miss Sherina Balaratnam spent seven years operating in NHS plastic surgery wards. That background shapes everything she does today.
S-Thetics Clinic opened in May 2015 in the heart of Beaconsfield Old Town. Behind it was a doctor who had spent two and a half decades building the kind of medical foundation that most aesthetic practitioners never acquire: seven years of NHS reconstructive plastic surgery, a Fellowship of the Royal Colleges of Surgeons, and a Masters degree from University College London researching photodynamic therapy at the National Medical Laser Centre. Miss Sherina Balaratnam did not arrive at aesthetic medicine quickly. She arrived with precision.
From the NHS operating theatre to Beaconsfield

Miss Balaratnam qualified as a doctor in 1998. The years that followed took her through NHS plastic surgery, treating patients with burns, complex trauma and post-cancer reconstruction. That experience gave her a working understanding of tissue, anatomy and healing that sits well outside the scope of conventional aesthetic training. When she began specialising in aesthetic medicine, she brought that surgical perspective with her.
Her qualifications reflect the breadth of that career. MBBS. MRCS from the Royal Colleges of Surgeons in Edinburgh, a Fellowship that denotes surgical competence and is why she holds the title Miss rather than Dr. An MSc from UCL in Surgical Science and Cancer Biology, with research conducted at the National Medical Laser Centre. She is also co-author of the Botulinum Toxins chapter in the Oxford Textbook of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, a standard reference text for trainee surgeons across the UK and internationally.
Recognition on the international stage

Miss Balaratnam has been recognised by Tatler as a Top Doctor for Regenerative Aesthetics for multiple consecutive years, including the 2026 Beauty and Cosmetic Surgery Guide, in which she is described as leading the UK’s most advanced regenerative aesthetics clinic. Glamour magazine named her one of the UK’s Top 10 Must-Visit Doctors. In 2022, she received the Medical Aesthetic Practitioner of the Year award at the Aesthetics Awards, one of only nine doctors ever to hold that title.
She serves as a Global Key Opinion Leader for BTL Aesthetics, the first non-US doctor in 33 years to carry that designation. She has presented at international conferences across Europe, Asia-Pacific, South East Asia and South America, including the opening keynote at Masterhub Buenos Aires, sessions at ACE London, and presentations at the Wigmore Presents conference at the Royal College of Physicians. Practitioners from across the world come to S-Thetics to see her protocols in practice.

“The most important question I ask in every consultation is not which treatment to use. It is what the person in front of me actually wants to achieve.”

What S-Thetics Clinic stands for

S-Thetics Clinic is based in a Grade II listed building on Wycombe End in Beaconsfield Old Town. The clinic offers a range of evidence-based, non-surgical treatments with a particular focus on regenerative medicine: approaches that work at a cellular level to restore function, stimulate collagen and support long-term skin health rather than simply masking change.
The treatment menu reflects the breadth of Miss Balaratnam’s training. Advanced injectables sit alongside device-based treatments including EMFACE, EXION, EMSCULPT NEO, Celluma LED light therapy and EXOMIND. Every treatment decision begins with a detailed consultation and a considered plan tailored to the individual.
Treatments available at S-Thetics Clinic:
- Advanced injectables: Botulinum toxin, dermal fillers, Profhilo and biostimulatory treatments carried out with surgical precision.
- EMFACE: The only non-surgical facial treatment to simultaneously address muscle and skin, without needles.
- EXOMIND: Non-invasive neuromodulation technology for mental wellness, introduced to S-Thetics in December 2024.
- Celluma LED: Photobiomodulation therapy for skin, acne and hair restoration, backed by published clinical data and FDA clearance.
- EXION and EMSCULPT NEO: Radiofrequency and body contouring using device protocols selected and refined by Miss Balaratnam over more than a decade of clinical use.
